2023 in Review
2023 has marked a year of change in our district. As a board we have been excited to see the new businesses, increased community activities, and valuable partnerships that have sprung up all over the corridor. As the year comes to a close, we are reflecting on the core mission of our organization and the ways we have put our mission in action this year.
Beautification
In addition to the landscaping projects completed in the spring we are excited to announce that Truman Road will soon be home to ” light pole banners” celebrating the “Truman Road Has Heart” campaign. These banners which feature our core message of revitalization while highlighting the districts rich history and forward progress.
Website and Social Media Launch
Connection to our community is key and that is why after years in the making we have finally launched our CID website/ social media presence. The CID site helps us deliver resources, updates, and project details to our members and we are so excited to finally be able to connect with each and every one of you.
City and Social Service Collaboration
Our most notable accomplishment this year was our partnership with the City of KCMO, KCPD, KC Fire Department, and countless social service agencies to clear a homeless encampment located at 13th and Spruce. Through the tireless efforts of many unsung heroes we were able to assist the homeless in relocating, finding treatment facilities, re housing options and resources. This multi-month effort marked a first in KC history and is a beautiful example of how compassion and human investment can lead to positive change. The lot, now slated for new development was cleared of several tons of debris and is now a shining example of how true team work can create results.
As we close out this year, we look forward to what 2024 will bring and how we as an organization can better serve our members in the coming season. If you have ideas … we would love to hear them, so please don’t hesitate to drop us a line or a project idea for 2024. This is just the beginning and we can wait to continue to help each of you build your businesses, beautify our area, and create a safe/vibrant corridor we can all be proud of.
